Ellen is the kind of person who you immediately want to be your friend.

She has a calming, encouraging air about her that really puts everyone around her at ease! I got the chance to chat with Ellen about her new position as Caregiver Advocate, and why this position is changing the game over here at At Home Quality Care.

Ellen’s essential function will now be to support the AHQC Caregivers in their positions, and be available to assist them in any questions or challenges they might have. Broken down a bit, here are they daily tasks Ellen will be responsible for as she transitions to this new position:

  1. Opening up lines of communication between Caregivers and their home office

One of our Core Values is Communication, and Ellen’s position will enable Caregivers to openly communicate with Ellen, their advocate. Each Caregiver will be provided with a Tablet to enhance their service to Clients, and the Tablet will also serve as an excellent way to easily communicate and check-in with Ellen. With these Tablets, Ellen can reach out “virtually” to all of our Caregivers and support so many more employees without the travel time it would take to meet face-to-face (but she will still be available in a face-to-face capacity!) Ellen points out that Caregivers have each committed to a very sacrificial position, caring and empathizing with Clients and giving of themselves everyday. They also need someone to empathize with them! Actually, Ellen was once a Caregiver herself. She spent a summer taking on Clients and assisting them in their homes, and now she really has the experience and know-how to understand where Caregivers are coming from.

  1. Caregiver trainings

Ellen will also be offering Caregiver trainings in the form of therapeutic and emotional education and support. Being a Caregiver is a taxing job, and it can take a toll if a Caregiver does not understand how to verbalize and process feelings and situations. With Ellen’s background in counseling, she can assist our Caregivers every step of the way as they work towards health. Every month, Ellen will focus on a new topic that helps equip Caregivers for situations and feelings that might arise on the job.

  1. Managing technology and application usage

Another one of our Core Values here at AHQC is trust. Ellen will be building trust between the Caregiver and Client as she assists with relationship building and training on how to incorporate the 5 Senses through technology. The Client-Caregiver relationship is one that requires time, care, and patience. Ellen will be there for the entire process, coaching and supporting Caregivers as they seek to have a healthy relationship with their Clients.

Ellen is so qualified for this position because of her passion for people, her background in psychology, and her experience as a Caregiver herself! She has a knack for supporting others in their mental health journey, and she has already experienced how life-giving it can be as a Caregiver to receive the support you need. Just recently, when a Client unexpectedly passed away, Ellen was there to support a Caregiver in assisting the family in their crisis, while working through feelings of grief and loss with the Caregiver herself. What if Caregivers could have this type of support every step of the way? That is the need that Ellen will be meeting here at At Home Quality Care.

Through her journey as a Caregiver, a professional in the field of psychology, a counseling student, a Care Coordinator, and now a student as she gains her Masters in Human Services with a specialization in Crisis Response, Ellen has learned that she can trust God’s perfect timing, and that she has the skills necessary to assist others in a huge way.

We are so excited that Ellen is setting our organization apart in this way – thank you for your hard work and care, Ellen!
